Client Success Story: James M

Supported Internships

James had completed Level 2 Award Certificate in Health and Social Care in the academic year 2016-17 and his dream job was to work as a Hospital Porter at Shrewsbury Hospital.

Enable Employment Officer, Tracey, met with him to complete his vocational profile which identified his strengths and experience and to agree a placement search strategy. James wanted to work at the hospital, as he had done some work experience there previously, so Tracey began to approach the hospital to try to secure and internship. Unfortunately, Tracey was unable to secure a placement in the hospital so James agreed to look into other placements. Tracey found him placement at Holy Cross Residential Home where he is now training to be a Health Care Assistant.

James is very popular both with the residents and the staff at the care home and he is very willing to help in any area – he’s even found himself working on the laundry. James has been involved in arranging activities for the residents which he enjoys. His main duties are working alongside the Heath Care Assistants and learning about personal care.

James is also part of a Focus Group of young people who are helping to increase awareness of options during transition and employment pathways.
James has already gained a lot of experience and has now changed his career aspiration, saying he would like to become a Health Care Assistant. Enable will be supporting James to secure paid employment at the end of his internship.
