Client Success Story: Tia

Supported Internships

Tia started her Supported Internship in September 2017 and initially was unsure of her career aim. Tia and her Employment Officer, Brendan, explored various options for work based on her skills and interests. These included, art, hair and makeup due to her flare for creativity. Tia has a caring nature and a friendly personality so Brendan suggested she could work at a care home as an Activity Coordinator Assistant. Brendan explained to Tia that this could involve washing resident’s hair, giving manicures and supporting with organising activities. Tia liked the sound of this and was really pleased when Brendan suggested a placement at Holy Cross Residential Home as a friend was a resident there.

While Tia was awaiting her DBS check, Brendan arranged for her to work as part of the admin team in the Enable office to provide her with experience of the working world and help her to build skills at the same time as building her confidence. Tia has now began her placement at Holy Cross, as well as a second placement where she works in a nursery.

Tia is also involved in an Enable Focus Group which aims to develop the Supported Internship service. As part of this will be contributing to a video about transition and employment for young people with SEND.
