Client Success Story: Jay

Supported Internships

Jay is currently working at House of Jumble as part of his Supported Internship. This is Jay’s dream job as he has a strong interest in comics and steam punk, he is an avid comic-con follower and is very knowledgeable in this area. Jay aims to get involved in researching products to establish pricing and purchasing.

Through his Internship, Jay is gaining customer service skills, has learnt how to use the till and is involved in producing the stock displays. Jay’s employers, Glen and Kate, are very pleased with how he has settled in and think the Supported Internship programme is an excellent opportunity for both the young person and the employer.

Jay said: “I would definitely recommend the Supported Internship programme, I’ve learnt how to use the till and how to calculate the price of stock. Being in my placement has also helped with my anxiety, quite a bit actually, I’m better at speaking with people because of all of the contact I have with customers.”

Enable will support Jay to look for paid employment at the end of his Internship. As he gains skills at House of Jumble, Tracey will be approaching his employer to find out if there is an opportunity for paid work with them, if they are not in a position to recruit, she will support Jay with job applications and arranging work trials. The pair have already started to discuss his options after the internship and Jay has expressed an interest in working in a pet shop, preferably with reptiles, as he has extensive knowledge of reptiles. Jay’s priority will continue to be to gain paid work at House of Jumble but this will depend on business and budgets.
